Eternal Life in Christ

Scripture: 1 John 5:12 (NIV)

"Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life."

In this concise yet profound verse, the Apostle John encapsulates the essence of the Christian faith. He presents a binary reality that revolves around a pivotal relationship—with or without the Son of God.

Having the Son Means Having Life

To "have the Son" is more than a mere acknowledgment of His existence; it is an intimate, personal relationship with Jesus Christ. This relationship is transformative, for in Him, we discover the source and essence of life. It's not just about an earthly existence but an eternal life that transcends the temporal.

Eternal life in Christ is not a distant promise; it is a present reality. It begins the moment we invite Jesus into our hearts, acknowledging Him as our Lord and Savior. This life is marked by a deep sense of purpose, joy, and an unshakable hope that extends beyond the confines of this world.

Lifeless Without the Son

Conversely, John starkly contrasts life with its absence. "Whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life." Without Christ, we are left in a state of spiritual emptiness, separated from the very source of existence. It's not merely a lack of vitality but a profound void that nothing in this world can fill.

The absence of the Son results in a life devoid of true meaning and purpose. It is a life characterized by the pursuit of temporal pleasures that ultimately leave us unsatisfied. Without Christ, we are like wanderers in a desert, searching for water in broken cisterns that can never quench our deepest thirst.

Choosing Life Through Christ

The beauty of this verse lies in the simplicity of the choice it presents. It beckons us to choose life by embracing the Son of God. The invitation is extended to all, regardless of past mistakes or shortcomings. In Christ, we find forgiveness, redemption, and the promise of a new life.

As we reflect on 1 John 5:12, let us examine our hearts. Do we have the Son of God, or are we navigating life without Him? Embracing Christ is not just a one-time decision; it's a daily surrender and a continuous journey. May we choose life in Christ, allowing His presence to permeate every aspect of our existence, and may our lives bear witness to the transformative power of having the Son.

Speak the Truth Even If Your Voice Shakes

“The word of the LORD came to me, saying, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” “Alas, Sovereign LORD,” I said, “I do not know how to speak; I am too young.” But the LORD said to me, “Do not say, ‘I am too young.’ You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you. Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you,” declares the LORD. Then the LORD reached out his hand and touched my mouth and said to me, “I have put my words in your mouth. See, today I appoint you over nations and kingdoms to uproot and tear down, to destroy and overthrow, to build and to plant.” Jeremiah 1:4-9
